Welcome to Ledger
Welcome to the Ledger Getting Started Hub — your trusted space to learn how to securely manage your digital assets. Whether you’ve just purchased a Ledger Nano X, Nano S Plus, or another Ledger device, this guide will walk you through the essential steps to set up, install, and protect your cryptocurrency safely.
1. Unbox Your Ledger Device
Inside your Ledger box, you’ll find:
- Your Ledger hardware wallet (Nano X or Nano S Plus)
- A USB cable or USB-C cable for connection
- Recovery sheets for writing down your 24-word recovery phrase
- Quick start guide and instructions
Make sure the box and packaging are sealed and not tampered with. Ledger devices are never sent pre-configured. If you receive a device with a pre-set PIN or recovery phrase, do not use it.
2. Set Up Your Device
Connect your Ledger wallet to your computer using the supplied cable. Follow the on-screen instructions to power on your device. You’ll be prompted to:
- Choose a 4-8 digit PIN code
- Write down your 24-word recovery phrase
- Confirm your recovery phrase word by word
Store your recovery phrase securely offline — never share it or store it digitally. This phrase is the only backup to restore access to your crypto if your device is lost or damaged.
3. Install Ledger Live
Ledger Live is the official desktop and mobile app that connects to your device. It allows you to manage, buy, sell, and stake your cryptocurrencies securely.
To download Ledger Live:
- Visit the official Ledger website at ledger.com/start.
- Select your operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, or Android).
- Install and launch the application.
After installing, connect your Ledger device to Ledger Live and follow the setup assistant to verify your device’s authenticity.
4. Add Accounts and Manage Crypto
Once your device is verified, you can add accounts for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and hundreds of other supported cryptocurrencies. Ledger Live provides a simple interface for checking balances, receiving funds, and sending transactions — all while your private keys remain securely stored inside your hardware wallet.
5. Keep Your Ledger Secure
Your security is Ledger’s top priority. To keep your assets protected, remember to:
- Always verify transactions directly on your device screen.
- Never share your 24-word recovery phrase with anyone.
- Keep your Ledger device and computer firmware updated.
- Bookmark ledger.com to avoid phishing sites.
If you ever suspect your device has been compromised, reset it and restore using your recovery phrase on a new device.
6. Explore More with Ledger
Ledger offers advanced tools for managing decentralized applications (dApps), NFTs, and DeFi directly through Ledger Live or compatible platforms. As the ecosystem grows, Ledger continues to provide regular firmware updates and educational resources to keep you safe in the world of digital finance.
